CAN You Dig It?
FoRM Design Studio joined forces with Kendle Design Collaborative and Ryan Companies to create our CAN-erpillar bobcat truck for the 2009 CANstruction competition. Ten competing teams developed unique designs, and with the generous help of sponsorship, purchased the food used in the build. We then had 12 hours to build our imaginative structures that must stand in place for one week. At the close of competition, all of the food was donated to St. Mary's Food Bank. Our team raised funds for well over 7,000 cans - with the whole competition gathering enough food to support nearly 50,000 meals. Our entry was additionally honored - winning the 'Best Meal' category.
Why Did the Architectural Firm Cross the Road? - For a Cool New Office Space!
The FoRM Team is very happy to have relocated to our new office, in the One North Central building. Our firm feels right at home in our ground floor suite, with lunch go-ers and the light-rail zipping by. Moving only one block from our old stomping grounds, FoRM is continuing our commitment to the development of downtown Phoenix - and supporting our favorite lunch spots!
Jumping the Pond
Marcene Kandra and Jose Martinez were honored to be hosted as part of a group touring Haro Sports Floors in Munich, Germany and Gerflor/Taraflex Flooring in Lyon, France. Athletic Floor Systems (AFS) invited a group of sports flooring decision makers in the US to tour the manufacturing and design facilities, and of course enjoy the local regions and delicacies. Good friendships were formed and great fun was had while learning about both companies and their dedication to eco-friendly production processes.
Run, Jose, Run
How do you celebrate a friend/client's 50th birthday? - by running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, of course. Fifteen friends from around the globe gathered in Barcelona for a week of merriment before the big day. Eight brave soles, including Jose, ran on 7/7/07 - could there have been a day with more luck on its side? The run went off without a hitch - all 100,000+ runners and all twelve bulls made it through the course in one piece. Olay!
We're Hitting the Books
Martin Pegler, editor of the "Visual Reference Books" series, featured Barcelona Restaurant in his book, "Café Design II". Mr. Pegler's publications focus on current Interior Architecture and Design throughout the world. The Barcelona project was selected from numerous submittals, including projects from countries such as England, Japan, and Brazil. The hardcover book includes full color photos and text describing the design process and project solutions. The FoRM Team is very proud to have been part of such a well received project.
Playing Our Cards
The FoRM Team had the pleasure of assisting the Coyotes Charities with the planning of the "Speak Easy on Grant" event. Founded by the Phoenix Coyotes, our national hockey league team, the Coyotes Charities sponsored the 1920's era themed gala to support the Special Olympics of Arizona. Guests reveled with the team in a casino atmosphere at a renovated warehouse in downtown Phoenix. Special thanks go to Brent Kleinman for his unsurpassed dedication.
Painting the Town
FoRM Design Studio was proud to have supported "Art Detour" for several years during its early development. "Art Detour" is a celebration of the Phoenix art community, occurring every March, over the course of a three day weekend. FoRM joined more than 50 artist studios, galleries, and downtown venues featuring work by local artists. Our featured artists included Meg Hartwell and Roberta Hancock. Art Detour has continued to grow with great success.
